Rooted in the historic Christian faith, alive in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition.
"As members of the Church Universal, we join with all true believers in proclaiming the Lordship of Jesus Christ" and affirm the historic Trinitarian creeds and beliefs of the Christian faith.
The Church of the Nazarene is a Protestant Christian church in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition. Organized in 1908, it is now home to more than 2 million members worshiping in over 26,000 congregations across 159 world areas.
We stand with all true believers in every age, proclaiming Jesus Christ as Lord and holding to the historic creeds and the authority of Scripture.
We believe God doesn't just forgive us — he transforms us. By his Spirit he fills the heart with his love and makes us holy.
We are a sent people, responding to the call of Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit to go into all the world with his hope.
The heart of what Nazarenes believe, in plain language.
We believe in one God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — eternal, holy, and full of love.
Matthew 28:19The Scriptures are God's Word, given by the Holy Spirit, fully revealing his will for our salvation — our trustworthy guide for faith and life.
2 Timothy 3:16We are made in God's image, yet all of us have sinned and need a Savior. We cannot rescue ourselves.
Romans 3:23Fully God and fully man, Jesus died for the sins of the whole world and rose again — the one and only way back to God.
1 Timothy 2:5–6Salvation is God's gift, never earned. God's grace goes before us and draws us; we are forgiven and made new as we repent and believe. God offers — we respond. Grace does not force its way in.
Ephesians 2:8–9This is the heartbeat of our tradition. After we're saved, the Holy Spirit seeks to do "a second work of grace, called by various terms including 'entire sanctification' and 'baptism with the Holy Spirit'" — filling the heart with God's love. We call it heart holiness.
1 Thessalonians 5:23The Holy Spirit lives in believers, assures us we are God's children, and grows his character in us day by day.
Romans 8:16We are the family of God, gathered for worship and sent for mission, celebrating baptism and the Lord's Supper as means of his grace.
Acts 2:42Jesus will come again. We live in hope of resurrection, final judgment, and the new creation where God makes all things right.
1 Thessalonians 4:16–17We exist not only for ourselves but for our neighbors — to love, serve, and share the hope of Christ wherever we go.
Matthew 28:19–20These convictions are summarized from the official Articles of Faith of the Church of the Nazarene. You're always welcome to read the full statements or to ask one of our pastors anything.
